Dear Collegues,

With great sorrow, we inform the readers of the MJHID of the death of Professor Michele Baccarani underwent on December 20, 2021.
His scientific contributions were fundamental to the advancement of hematology, and his intuition and vision of the future changed the history of chronic myeloid leukemia. Prof. Baccarani was the first to describe the goals for the treatment of LMC and the responses of LMC patients to targeted treatments. He was a distinguished member of both ASH, ELN, and, of course, Italian scientific societies. Prof. Baccarani was a legend in our field, a brilliant investigator, a dedicated physician and a dear mentor; his guidance, intelligence, thoughtfulness, and insight will be sorely missed. We are particularly grateful to Prof. Baccarani for having been the Guest Editor of the Review Series on Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, published on the MJHD in August 2014.
